My name is Natalia and I am a paramedic in the Ambulance Service.I have spent twelve years doing a job that I love and somewhere in my journey I have realised that I haven't done enough. Some would say spending 12 hour shifts crashing into people's
lives and homes is probably a good start to doing my job well...but that's exactly the problem, it is just a start and I hate leaving a job unfinished.
Over the years, I guess I have become a (little) older and (a lot) wiser and although I may have
been slightly unusual in the fact that I never joined the Ambulance Service to save lives, I joined because I wanted to make a difference to someone when they were experiencing a crisis, going through something that was so awful that it took their breath away.
I wanted to be there because I never wanted anyone to go through anything bad alone....No one should do that alone....
So, what have I learnt over the last 13 years?
I've learnt to treat every patient like I would want my family treated and my
family means everything to me. I've learnt that my job is not all about clinical guidelines and baseline observations and no one can teach you humanity, that is something you either have or don't have. I've also learnt that not everyone is like me....
So, what am I doing about it?
Well I have created this website because I can't always be there to tell you that you are not alone,or that because you are having a bad day today does not mean you are destined to have a bad life.None of us heal in
isolation and I want you to know that there are people out there that are going through similar difficult times. There are so many good people giving up their precious time working for charities, working for you, because they have been in a similar place to
where you find yourself, they have been touched by something, they have known suffering, they have known loss and they have known struggle but they have also overcome defeat.
So, let me try and help you to help yourself.... And, remember, stars
can't shine without darkness...but things do get better...but only you can help make that happen...
PS: I have created a feedback page so you can let me know if this is useful and if there is anything else you would like to see on this website. Please
feel free to email me on firstname.lastname@example.org.
